? Sc craig + ? Sc mede
‘Stretch of grassland by a crag’? Sc mede is ‘a meadow, a stretch of open grassland’. It is the name of the open ground to the south-east of Craigmead Quarry (NO227060), whose rocky outcrops presumably provide the eponymous craig.
The name also occurs on the farm of Spittal ADN in west Fife (see PNF 1), where two fields, the westernmost of the farm, are called North Craigmeed and South Craigmeed (1810 RHP3610).
