Sc or SSE coalpit + Sc or SSE burn

The eponymous coal pit is shown on OS 6 inch 1st edn at NO229065. A deep hollow cut into the west bank of the burn, it is now clearly visible following the clearing in 2005 of the coniferous woodland along its banks.

It forms the upper reaches of the Maspie (Burn) FAL, and the above NGR is of the water-fall at the top of Maspie Den, which is now generally considered to be the start of the Maspie.
