‘Head or end of the den or deep valley’, in this case ‘land above a den’, the den in question no doubt being the deep valley of the Glassy How Burn. The lands of Denhead appear to have formerly been part of Baltilly CER, and were known as South Baltilly in 1800 (see Casconity CER).

    RHP3649/1 shows the farm of Denhead in 1804 as consisting of 11 parks. They are unnamed, but one (unspecified) is called Gillis Land.
