Now under coal-mining spoil, it seems to have lain on the lands of Balgonie (or Little Balgonie) south-west of Auchterderran. Neither Ainslie/Fife (1775) nor Ainslie/West Fife (1827) has this name, but it would appear to be at or near the settlement they call Hunger Himout or Hungerhimout respectively. McNeil Houston lists Inglis as one of the ‘very common’ surnames of the parish (1924, 381), and states that Inglishall was named after Inglis, the proprietor (ibid. 67). It would seem therefore that Inglishall is a late re-naming of the pejorative Hungerhimout.
