Sc sunny + Sc brae

‘Sunny slopes’. The adjective sunny is found applied to settlements of good aspect, usually south-facing, as is this one. Compare also Sunnyside SLN.

The NGR given is for the higher lying East Sunnybraes, Ainslie/Fife’s Sunnybraes. At the lower lying West Sunnybraes (NT037924) are the very dilapidated ruins of a substantial farm steading, marked but not named on OS Pathf. They lie beside the old track which runs from Coalyford beside Steelend (village) westwards to Killernie.

Sunnybraes was a relatively late creation out of the lands of Killernie SLN.
