The derivation of this name is obscure. Cormie is a local surname, but it does not appear in Black 1946.

Note also the OS 6 inch 1st edn. Cairnielea (Cottages), appears as Cormyleys on the Raith Estate Plan of 1757 (RHP1710).[196]

On Cormie Hill stands Raith Tower, described on OS 6 inch 1st edn. as being ‘on site of a Tumulus’. The Raith Estate Plan of 1757 describes the hill as ‘a conspicuous place – an old Intrenchment’, for a discussion of which see under Raith KDT below.

This place-name appeared in printed volume 1
