This is probably a late and humorous formation modelled on neighbouring and much older Carberry, with the second element Sc whinny ‘full of whins (gorse)’.

Carwhinny and Redhouse are marked next to each other on OS 2.5 inch (1:25,000) (1956). Neither appears on OS Pathf., both obliterated by modern road development.

This place-name appeared in printed volume 1
