Hoch-ma-toch Rocks KGH C NT275873 1 395 0m
Heughmatauk 1850 x 1853 OS Name Book 71, 7 [alternative name]
Hoch-ma-toch 1856 OS 6 inch 1st edn.
I can offer no explanation for this strange name. OS Name Book 71, 7 describes these rocks as follows: ‘A ledge of low shelving rocks near high water mark in the Firth of Forth ...’ It gives as a source for the spelling Hoch-ma-toch the description of the Parliamentary boundary, from which it can be deduced that these rocks were used to define the northern boundary of the burgh of Kinghorn.
