See Anfield DFL for more on the practice of naming properties after female family members, and for other Fife examples of An(n)field. Ainslie/Fife (1775) shows Two at or near this spot. This derives from a misunderstanding (and then Englishing) of (The) Quaw (Sc quaw ‘bog, quagmire’) (1796 RHP3818). That this error arose in a Sc-speaking context is shown by the form ‘the Twa’ (1814 Sasine no. 10085, which lists lands in the barony of Fordell). It is probably only coincidence that Roy’s Wanfield could represent Sc ‘one field’!
