Sc muir + Sc side

‘Side of a muir or stretch of rough grazing’. The farm of Muirside is marked but not named on OS Pathf. and OS Explorer, while this latter map names the small group of houses to the south-east ‘Muirside Cottage’. Muirside is not far from the southern edge of Lockshaw Moss, but separated from it by a low ridge of drier land. The muir of the name will refer to this drier stretch of land. Muirside is also the name of a nearby explosives depot (marked ‘Works’ on OS Explorer) as well as of the fields of the old farm of Muirside, now farmed by Bogside Farm.
