? Sc gowdie or ? Sc * guldie
‘Goldfinch’, perhaps, indicating the presence of the birds here (Sc gowdie); or Sc *guldie, an otherwise unattested adjectival form of earlier Sc goold or guild(e) ‘corn marigold’, a notorious weed. A building is shown at about this position on Ainslie/Fife (1775) and SGF (1828), but not named. It is now a ruin. It lay on the lands of Nisbetfield (OS Name Book 54, 46).
