Sc hill + en Tarvit

It was the upper part of the lands of Tarvit which were held by the bishops of St Andrews, named *Tarbhait an áird ‘Tarvit of the height’ in contrast with the other part of the bishop’s lands, *Nether Tarvit (q.v.) or *Tarbhait ind Fháin.

Despite associations with the Inglis family in 1539 and 1541, it is not to be confused with Inglistarvit, later Scotstarvit, CER (PNF 2).

See CUP, TVX Intro. for more discussion of the complex of lands bearing the name Tarvit.

OS Pathf. calls this place Hilltarvit Mains.
