? + ? pn Bennet

Bennet (sometimes Benet) derives from the name Benedict, first attested as a Scottish personal name in 1402 (Black 1946, 58–9). Since this small settlement lay on lands which had belonged to the Benedictine Abbey of Dunfermline since the early twelfth century, it is possible that there is a connection between the monastic order of the landlords and the second element of this name.

The first element remains obscure. Lochybennet is an upland settlement, and has no obvious connection with a loch.
