Laverock Law 1855 OS 6 inch 1st edn

Sc laverock + Sc law

‘Lark law or hill’. It is unclear what relationship this has to the nearby settlement of *Laverock Hall (Larrockhall 1775 Ainslie/Fife; Larkhall 1827 Ainslie/East Fife). Sc hall (pronounced /h:/) ‘hall, high status house’, probably used facetiously here, may in fact have been re-interpreted as Sc law, with which it rhymes. For the use of Sc law locally, see under Kippo KBS, above.

It has the appearance of a huge artificial mound, now covered in mature trees, although it may be natural, and is not mentioned in NMRS. It is a conspicuous local land-mark, and might be the eponymous ceap of Kippo KBS q.v.
