Liberty 1855 OS 6 inch 1st edn
A house-name at the time of the OS 6 inch 1st edn (OS Name Book 81, 73), the name is said to be a reference to the liberty or freedom of trade in the burgh.
‘The inhabitants (of the parish) are principally congregated in Earlsferry, Elie, Liberty and Williamsburgh ...’ (Millar 1895 ii, 4). In 1891 Liberty and Williamsburgh were transferred from KCQ to ELI (see ELI Introduction). A section of the road on the shore between Earlsferry and Elie is still called Liberty.
