Sc west + Sc ness
‘Western promontory or headland’, though it lies to the south and slightly to the east of the harbour, rather than to its west. On the Fife coast, given the general north-east to south-west orientation of the coastline, it seems to be assumed that anywhere to the south must also lie west and anywhere to the north must lie east. See for example East Vows and West Vows off the coast of KGH, where East Vows lies north and very slightly west of West Vows.
