Drumlie Myres 1855 OS 6 inch 1st edn [= OS Pathf. Drumly; also Drumlie Knowe to the immediate south-east]
‘Muddy (mires)’; Sc drumlie, a variant of Sc drubly, means ‘troubled, disturbed’, and in relation to streams or water ‘troubled, cloudy, muddy’ (CSD). If this is the correct analysis, then the name originally applied to the mire, or to a burn or burns running out of it. See also Drumlie CLS (PNF 4), which may have a different origin.
