RHP2152 (1841) shows ‘lands of Gillings Hill, inclusive of Kirk Roads’ marching on the west with the lands of Baldutho (Balduthie). The Kirk Roads refer to the roads leading to Carnbee parish kirk, which lies east of Gillings Hill at the other end of Kellie Law and Carnbee Law. One of these roads refers to the track which still runs along the southern slope of these hills. The settlement on OS Pathf. is named after the relief feature, Gillings Hill (see above).

Ainslie/Fife (1775), Ainslie/East Fife (1827) and SGF (1828) do not show Gillingshill, the main settlement in the vicinity being Upper Kelly (see Upper Kellie # CBE, below).
