Sc brig + Sc toun

‘Bridge farm’. Named rather after the bridge over the Brigton Burn (which flows through Bridgetown Den) than the one over the Cameron Burn. On Ainslie/Fife are High Bridgtown, where Brigton is today, and Low Bridgetown (sic), to the north near Bridgetown Bridge. Nearby OS Pathf. Bridgetown Den and Bridgetown Bridge, over the Cameron Burn, both show English orthography, though they appear on OS 6 inch (1855) as Brigton Den and Brigton Bridge.
