Press Cove 1899 Dickson 1899, 282
? Sc press + Sc cove
‘A cave resembling a press or large, usually recessed, cupboard’? This is a more likely explanation than that given by Eggeling (after Dickson 1899, 282): ‘A small cove south of the Mill Door containing a cave in which fugitives from the press gangs are reputed to have sheltered. Wrongly referred to as Presco Cave by Harvie-Brown in an address delivered in 1896’ (1985, 250). Eggeling code D.
