Sc plaisterer

Named after a tradesman, a plasterer, who built an inn here. According to the Laird of Balfour in 1725, ‘about a mile and a half benorth the bridge of Lochtie, you come to a very convenient inn built by Thomas Alburn, an Elglishman (sic, for ‘Englishman’) and the best plaisterer that ever was yet in Scotland’ (Geog. Coll. i, 300). The Alburn family lived at, and gave their name to, Alburn Knowe shown on OS 6 inch (1856) at NO286012, though when they lived there in 1781 it was called Wandersknows (Sasines no. 40). Today part of Glenrothes is called Alburne Park.
