Sc wall + Sc tree

‘Well tree, tree at a well’. There is a well a hundred yards or so to the north-east of the house on the 1856 map. It is first mentioned in 1740 as a place on the main road from Kirkcaldy to Cupar: an extract from the minutes of the commissioners of supply for Fife includes a petition for the repair of this road between Waltree and Milntail (Milltail FAL) (Silver 1987, 24).

The old local pronunciation is /ˈwaltrɪ/ or (with the definite article) /ðəˈwaltrɪ/.[145]
