Millwaters 1856 OS 6 inch 1st edn
SSE mill + SSE water
It seems that a water channel or mill-lade was drawn from the Freuchie Burn at NO287059, just downstream from a Wauk Mill (shown on 1856 OS 6 inch map) at Channelhall FAL. It flowed north-west past Millwaters, then turned sharply to the north-east and flowed down to provide water-power at Freuchie Mill FAL. Its course is still visible, albeit incompletely, on OS Pathf.
OS Name Book (Bk 15, p. 8) states that the building, Millwaters, is ‘newly erected on a piece of land called Millwaters, hence its name.’
