Tod’s Wood 1920 OS 6 inch 1st revision
? Sc or SSE tod or ? pn Tod + Sc or SSE wood
‘Fox’s wood’ or ‘wood belonging to or associated with a person or family called Tod(d)’. For the personal name Tod(d), see under Urquhart SLO, PNF 4.
It is marked but not named on OS 6 inch 1st edn. On Roy’s map of 1753 Tod Haugh is shown across the River Eden from Cults mill CLT, nearly 2 km to the north-west of Tod’s Wood, at around NO340108. Tod in Tod Haugh, without the possessive genitive, is more likely to refer to the animal.
