Sc muir + Sc heid

‘Head or (upper) end of the muir or rough grazing’. Muirhead stands at 160 m, high on the muir separating CER from CLT and at the high point of the road from Kame Bridge to Paradise CLT.

It is shown on Blaeu (Gordon) Fife as a parallelogram surrounded by a paling, immediately west of a larger patch of ground surrounded by a similar paling around Struthers (Strudder). The only other area surrounded by a paling on Blaeu (Gordon) Fife is the royal park at Falkland. However, Gordon MS Fife (the map on which Blaeu (Gordon) Fife was based), while showing the paling around Struthers, shows this feature only along the southern edge of Muirhead (Muirheid).

OS Pathf. also shows Little Muirhead immediately to the north of Muirhead.
